Author: Masao Nakamura
Publisher: Palgrave MacMillan
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en

Book Description
"Facing rapid globalization, it became evident that the traditional Chinese corporate governance mechanisms, which were heavily influenced by European and Japanese counterparts, had become obsolete. More transparent corporate governance mechanisms must be adopted to support China's continuing economic growth. In Japan, to public criticism that its bank-based corporate governance practices were responsible for the prolonged recession in the 1990s, the Japanese government and corporations undertook massive reforms of corporate governance mechanisms." "With contributions from well-known academics from China, Japan and North America, this book discusses issues associated with the transplantation efforts and the selective adaptations that have taken place in corporate governance practices in China and Japan."--BOOK JACKET.

China, Japan, Europe and the Anglo-Sphere, a Comparative Analysis
Author: Alan MacFarlane
Publisher: CAM Rivers Publishing Limited
ISBN: 9781912603268
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 258
Book Description
We live in a confused and confusing world. This is partly caused by the massive growth of inter-civilisational contacts driven by economic, cultural and communication changes. It is urgent that we understand each other if we are to survive and thrive, yet most of us know very little about the world outside our own civilisation. This book describes the central features of four great civilisations, their history and culture: China, Japan, Europe and the Anglosphere. Through a comparison of their deeper cultural logic and through investigating their dreams and nightmares, their religious, economic, political and social similarities and differences, we may come to a deeper appreciation of their worlds and our own. Drawing on fifty years of travel through these different civilisations and teaching about them at the University of Cambridge, Alan Macfarlane explores how we can remain different and yet live in some sort of harmony through mutual appreciation and understanding.

Entangled Landscapes
Author: Yue Zhuang
Publisher: NUS Press
ISBN: 9814722588
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 342
Book Description
The exchange of landscape practice between China and Europe from 1500–1800 is an important chapter in art history. While the material forms of the outcome of this exchange, like jardin anglo-chinoisand Européenerie are well documented, this book moves further to examine the role of the exchange in identity formation in early modern China and Europe. Proposing the new paradigm of “entangled landscapes”, drawing from the concept of “entangled histories”, this book looks at landscape design, cartography, literature, philosophy and material culture of the period. Challenging simplistic, binary treatments of the movements of “influences” between China and Europe, Entangled Landscapes reveals how landscape exchanges entailed complex processes of appropriation, crossover and transformation, through which Chinese and European identities were formed. Exploring these complex processes via three themes—empire building, mediators’ constraints, and aesthetic negotiations, this work breaks new ground in landscape and East-West studies. Interdisciplinary and revisionist in its thrust, it will also benefit scholars of history, human geography and postcolonial studies.
