Book Description
5th Werner Kern Award for Productivity Research 2005 Kanban control systems bear a great potential to significantly improve operations. A company may reap the full benefits of kanban control only after determining an optimal or near-optimal system configuration. To do that, methods are needed to evaluate the performance and operating costs of individual system configurations. We propose an innovative construction-kit approach that enables us to build stochastic analytical models of a large class of single- and multi-product kanban systems. The presented construction-kit approach may be extended and augmented in various directions.

Book Description
This workbook for manufacturing supply chain management (SCM) professionals illustrates how to apply kanban replenishment systems and improve material flow. Those who are now ready to make the conversion from materials requirements planning (MRP) push techniques to kanban pull techniques must read this book! In Kanban for the Supply Chain: Fundamental Practices for Manufacturing Management., Stephen Cimorelli provides SCM teams with a roadmap for installing fundamental kanban concepts - the method is immediately actionable thereby increasing manufacturing productivity and profitability. Through an iterative process of planning, adjusting, and executing, kanban pull techniques keep inventory levels synchronized with demand, and the supply chain synchronized with actual production.

Book Description
Abstract: "The literature on decentralized scheduling of manufacturing systems addresses the central question of stability almost exclusively within the context of supply driven systems. Considering the potential of demand information as a tool to avoid 'starvation' -- a key characteristic of all known instability examples -- and the reputation of kanbans as a scheduling control mechanism, the question of stability in kanban-controlled systems is both natural and relevant. In this paper it is shown that the apparent potential for stabilization using kanbans is not uniformly true. On the contrary, the addition of an 'unbalanced' number of kanbans may cause instability in a formerly stable system. Here we present examples where instability patterns -- known for the supply driven case -- are maintained and where a new pattern of instability occurs; finally, we show that the stability properties for acyclic systems may fail in systems with kanbans. An interesting 'threshold' effect occurs and this may be the reason why in practice -- with on-line tuning -- instability has not been observed."

Book Description
Kanban Made Simple is the first simple "how-to" guide for incorporating the just-in-time ingenuity of the Kanban system into any manufacturing environment. From the Japanese word for "visual record", the technique dictates that suppliers deliver parts to the warehouse only as they are needed, reducing storage in the production area. Using before-and-after case studies, this easy-to-follow guide contains information on establishing project goals, forming a Kanban team, and designing the process.

Book Description
When describing kanban implementation most information resources merely reference it without explaining it in technical terms or providing implementation details. Authors James Vatalaro and Robert Taylor address the need for kanban implementation guidance in Implementing a Mixed Model Kanban System: The Lean Replenishment Technique for Pull Production. Implementing a Mixed Model Kanban System is a comprehensive and in-depth guide to implementing a kanban within the value stream. Its plain-language approach provides step-by-step coverage and guidance of the implementation, metrics, and dynamics of an effective kanban system based on proven reliable methods honed through years of implementation experience within manufacturing and non-manufacturing environments. By focusing on a case study of a manufacturing company trying to create and maintain continuous flow in their value stream. Vatalaro and Taylor show the reader how to construct their own kanban process, from beginning to end. This book carefully identifies and explains each of the components of a kanban system within the context of pull production. The authors' common sense approach makes this book an excellent "on the floor" resource for all levels of "lean learners." In addition, a CD-ROM is included, containing the spreadsheets and forms discussed in the text.

Book Description
Kanban is a representative control policy pursuing cost-efficient features for the material flow system. However, the Kanban mechanism increases the system vulnerability especially when the environment is uncertain. Therefore, we proposed a robust Kanban system model for the supply chain system based on the Kanban mechanism. The model can use robust approaches from strategic, tactical, and operational levels to deal with the risks in an uncertain environment.
