Book Description
(Paraninfo).

This topic has been a compulsory subject for every undergraduate studying mathematics or engineering for a very long time. This volume contains a huge number of engaging problems and solutions, as well as detailed explanations of how to achieve these solutions. This latter quality is something that many problem books lack, and it is hoped that this feature will be useful to students and instructors alike. Features Hundreds of problems and solutions Can be used as a stand-alone problem book, or in conjunction with the author’s textbook, Real Analysis: An Undergraduate Textbook for Mathematicians, Applied Scientists, and Engineers, ISBN 9781032481487 Perfect resource for undergraduate students studying a first course in Calculus or Real Analysis Contains explanatory figures, detailed techniques, tricks, hints, and “recipes” on how to proceed once we have a calculus problem in front of us.

Book Description
This book develops the theory of multivariable analysis, building on the single variable foundations established in the companion volume, Real Analysis: Foundations and Functions of One Variable. Together, these volumes form the first English edition of the popular Hungarian original, Valós Analízis I & II, based on courses taught by the authors at Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary, for more than 30 years. Numerous exercises are included throughout, offering ample opportunities to master topics by progressing from routine to difficult problems. Hints or solutions to many of the more challenging exercises make this book ideal for independent study, or further reading. Intended as a sequel to a course in single variable analysis, this book builds upon and expands these ideas into higher dimensions. The modular organization makes this text adaptable for either a semester or year-long introductory course. Topics include: differentiation and integration of functions of several variables; infinite numerical series; sequences and series of functions; and applications to other areas of mathematics. Many historical notes are given and there is an emphasis on conceptual understanding and context, be it within mathematics itself or more broadly in applications, such as physics. By developing the student’s intuition throughout, many definitions and results become motivated by insights from their context.

Book Description
This undergraduate textbook is based on lectures given by the author on the differential and integral calculus of functions of several real variables. The book has a modern approach and includes topics such as: •The p-norms on vector space and their equivalence •The Weierstrass and Stone-Weierstrass approximation theorems •The differential as a linear functional; Jacobians, Hessians, and Taylor's theorem in several variables •The Implicit Function Theorem for a system of equations, proved via Banach’s Fixed Point Theorem •Applications to Ordinary Differential Equations •Line integrals and an introduction to surface integrals This book features numerous examples, detailed proofs, as well as exercises at the end of sections. Many of the exercises have detailed solutions, making the book suitable for self-study. Several Real Variables will be useful for undergraduate students in mathematics who have completed first courses in linear algebra and analysis of one real variable.

Book Description
This concise, well-written handbook provides a distillation of real variable theory with a particular focus on the subject's significant applications to differential equations and Fourier analysis. Ample examples and brief explanations---with very few proofs and little axiomatic machinery---are used to highlight all the major results of real analysis, from the basics of sequences and series to the more advanced concepts of Taylor and Fourier series, Baire Category, and the Weierstrass Approximation Theorem. Replete with realistic, meaningful applications to differential equations, boundary value problems, and Fourier analysis, this unique work is a practical, hands-on manual of real analysis that is ideal for physicists, engineers, economists, and others who wish to use the fruits of real analysis but who do not necessarily have the time to appreciate all of the theory. Valuable as a comprehensive reference, a study guide for students, or a quick review, "A Handbook of Real Variables" will benefit a wide audience.

Book Description
This book is first of all designed as a text for the course usually called "theory of functions of a real variable". This course is at present cus tomarily offered as a first or second year graduate course in United States universities, although there are signs that this sort of analysis will soon penetrate upper division undergraduate curricula. We have included every topic that we think essential for the training of analysts, and we have also gone down a number of interesting bypaths. We hope too that the book will be useful as a reference for mature mathematicians and other scientific workers. Hence we have presented very general and complete versions of a number of important theorems and constructions. Since these sophisticated versions may be difficult for the beginner, we have given elementary avatars of all important theorems, with appro priate suggestions for skipping. We have given complete definitions, ex planations, and proofs throughout, so that the book should be usable for individual study as well as for a course text. Prerequisites for reading the book are the following. The reader is assumed to know elementary analysis as the subject is set forth, for example, in TOM M. ApOSTOL'S Mathematical Analysis [Addison-Wesley Publ. Co., Reading, Mass., 1957], or WALTER RUDIN'S Principles of M athe nd matical Analysis [2 Ed., McGraw-Hill Book Co., New York, 1964].

Book Description
Real-Variable Methods in Harmonic Analysis deals with the unity of several areas in harmonic analysis, with emphasis on real-variable methods. Active areas of research in this field are discussed, from the Calderón-Zygmund theory of singular integral operators to the Muckenhoupt theory of Ap weights and the Burkholder-Gundy theory of good ? inequalities. The Calderón theory of commutators is also considered. Comprised of 17 chapters, this volume begins with an introduction to the pointwise convergence of Fourier series of functions, followed by an analysis of Cesàro summability. The discussion then turns to norm convergence; the basic working principles of harmonic analysis, centered around the Calderón-Zygmund decomposition of locally integrable functions; and fractional integration. Subsequent chapters deal with harmonic and subharmonic functions; oscillation of functions; the Muckenhoupt theory of Ap weights; and elliptic equations in divergence form. The book also explores the essentials of the Calderón-Zygmund theory of singular integral operators; the good ? inequalities of Burkholder-Gundy; the Fefferman-Stein theory of Hardy spaces of several real variables; Carleson measures; and Cauchy integrals on Lipschitz curves. The final chapter presents the solution to the Dirichlet and Neumann problems on C1-domains by means of the layer potential methods. This monograph is intended for graduate students with varied backgrounds and interests, ranging from operator theory to partial differential equations.

Book Description
The original edition of this book has been out of print for some years. The appear ance of the present second edition owes much to the initiative of Yves Nievergelt at Eastern Washington University, and the support of Ann Kostant, Mathematics Editor at Birkhauser. Since the book was first published, several people have remarked on the absence of exercises and expressed the opinion that the book would have been more useful had exercises been included. In 1997, Yves Nievergelt informed me that, for a decade, he had regularly taught a course at Eastern Washington based on the book, and that he had systematically compiled exercises for his course. He kindly put his work at my disposal. Thus, the present edition appears in two parts. The first is essentially just a reprint of the original edition. I have corrected the misprints of which I have become aware (including those pointed out to me by others), and have made a small number of other minor changes.
