Book Description
Excerpt from An Investigation Into the Breaking Down Points for Perfect Lubrication Under Varying Speeds, Pressures and Temperatures: A Thesis Submitted for the Degree of Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering Course, University of Wisconsin, 1905 Friction, the highway robber of mechanical energy, as it is often aptly termed, has of late been the subject of much experimental research. Until recent years very little was known about the friction of bearings, but recently extensive tests have been made which have thrown considerable light on this subject, and have given us some very exact information. At the present day there are no journal bearings made which it is certain will not run hot sooner or later in the course of their Operation and many of the experiments performed in this connection have been made in the hope of gaining some alleviation of this trouble. Designers have been made to realize that journal friction is one of the most important points in machine construction. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. Book Description
Specifically focusing on fluid film, hydrodynamic, and elastohydrodynamic lubrication, this edition studies the most important principles of fluid film lubrication for the correct design of bearings, gears, and rolling operations, and for the prevention of friction and wear in engineering designs. It explains various theories, procedures, and equations for improved solutions to machining challenges. Providing more than 1120 display equations and an introductory section in each chapter, Fundamentals of Fluid Film Lubrication, Second Edition facilitates the analysis of any machine element that uses fluid film lubrication and strengthens understanding of critical design concepts.
