Book Description
Taoism is an historic Chinese philosophical religion based on the idea of Dao (Tao), or "the way," an approach to life that seeks to live in balance and harmony with oneself, human society, and the natural world. The formative text of Taoism includes this 6th century B.C.E. collection of teachings known as Dao De Jing (or Tao Te Ching) by the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu. Written approximately 500 years before the Hebrew Messiah Jesus Christ walked the earth, there is a good chance Christ was familiar with and studied this work. Along with an in depth analysis into the profound teachings of the Dao De Jing, this edition gives reasonable explanations of possible connections between it and the teachings of the Son of Man Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. *This is a large print edition making it much easier to read.

Book Description
NOTE: This is a new annotated version of the author's original translation. Originally authored over 2500 years ago, the Tao Te Ching is even more relevant today than when it was first written. Long considered to be a mystical text, many scholars now consider this classic of ancient China to be a pragmatic guide to understanding human psychology and dealing with the unnatural challenges that come with civilization. Although the Tao Te Ching has been translated countless times already, this unique new version stands out for its clarification of the implicit vagueness and poetic allusions of the original. In interpreting the text from a contemporary perspective, this version helps modern readers more easily make sense of this book's timeless, practical ideas and suggestions, and incorporate them into their own lives. Despite its utilitarian approach, the original beauty and poetry of the original book has not been sacrificed. Hence, this "Tao for Now" seeks to appeal to both the scientific- and spiritual-minded alike. A cordial introduction by the author helps explain his version's approach to the path of Tao, as well as introduce the core Taoist principles espoused in the Tao Te Ching. Additionally, simple and clear essays follow each of the 81 verses, investigating and explaining their meaning and relevance in today's world.

Book Description
The Tao Te Ching is fundamental to the Taoist school of Chinese philosophy and strongly influenced other schools, such as Legalism and Neo-Confucianism. This ancient book is also central in Chinese religion, not only for Taoism but Chinese Buddhism, which when first introduced into China was largely interpreted through the use of Taoist words and concepts. Many Chinese artists, including poets, painters, calligraphers, and even gardeners have used the Tao Te Ching as a source of inspiration. Its influence has also spread widely outside East Asia, aided by hundreds of translations into Western languages.

Book Description
The timeless wisdom of this classic Taoist text can become a companion on your own spiritual journey. The Chuang-tzu is the second major text of the Taoist tradition. It was compiled in the third century BCE and follows the lead of the best-known and oldest of all Taoist texts, the Tao-te-ching (Book of the Tao and Its Potency). Representing the philosophy of its main author, Chuang Chou, along with several other early Taoist strands, the text has inspired spiritual seekers for over two thousand years. Using parable, anecdote, allegory and paradox, the Chuang-tzu presents the central message of what was to become the Taoist school: a reverence for the Tao—the "Way" of the natural world—and the belief that you are not truly virtuous until you are free from the burden of circumstance, personal attachments, tradition and the desire to reform the world. In this special SkyLight Illuminations edition, leading Taoist scholar Livia Kohn, PhD, provides a fresh, modern translation of key selections from this timeless text to open up classic Taoist beliefs and practices. She provides insightful, accessible commentary that highlights the Chuang-tzu's call to reject artificially imposed boundaries and distinctions, and illustrates how you can live a more balanced, authentic and joyful life—at ease in perfect happiness—by following Taoist principles.

Book Description
The enduring wisdom of the Tao Te Ching can become a companion for your own spiritual journey. Reportedly written by a sage named Lao Tzu over 2,500 years ago, the Tao Te Ching is one of the most succinct--and yet among the most profound--spiritual texts ever written. Short enough to read in an afternoon, subtle enough to study for a lifetime, the Tao Te Ching distills into razor-sharp poetry centuries of spiritual inquiry into the Tao--the "Way" of the natural world around us that reveals the ultimate organizing principle of the universe. Derek Lin's insightful commentary, along with his new translation from the original Chinese--a translation that sets a whole new standard for accuracy--will inspire your spiritual journey and enrich your everyday life. It highlights the Tao Te Ching's insights on simplicity, balance, and learning from the paradoxical truths you can see all around you: finding strength through flexibility (because bamboo bends, it is tough to break); achieving goals by transcending obstacles (water simply flows around rocks on its way to the sea); believing that small changes bring powerful results (a sapling, in time, grows into a towering tree). Now you can experience the wisdom and power of Lao Tzu's words even if you have no previous knowledge of the Tao Te Ching. SkyLight Illuminations provides insightful yet unobtrusive commentary that describes helpful historical background, explains the Tao Te Ching's poetic imagery, and elucidates the ancient Taoist wisdom that will speak to your life today and energize your spiritual quest.

Book Description
The most accessible and authoritative modern English translation of this esoteric but infinitely practical bestselling book. "No one has done better in conveying Lao Tsu's simple and laconic style of writing, so as to produce an English version almost as suggestive of the many meanings intended." —Alan Watts For nearly two generations, Gia-fu Feng and Jane English's bestselling translation of the Tao Te Ching has been the standard for those seeking access to the wisdom of Taoist thought. Now Jane English and her long-time editor, Toinette Lippe, have revised and refreshed the translation so that it more faithfully reflects the Classical Chinese in which it was first written, taking into account changes in our own language and eliminating any lingering infelicities. They have retained the simple clarity of the original rendering of a sometimes seemingly obtuse spiritual text, a clarity that has made this version a classic in itself, selling over a million copies. Written most probably in the sixth century B.C. by Lao Tsu, this esoteric but infintely practical book has been translated into English more frequently than any other work except the Bible. Gia-fu Feng and Jane English's superb translation offers the essence of each word and makes Lao Tsu's teaching immediate and alive. This edition includes an introduction and notes by the well-known writer and scholar of philosophy and comparative religion, Jacob Needleman.
