Book Description
Speech technology is a major and growing industry that enriches the lives of technologically-minded people in a number of ways. Many potential users are, however, excluded: Namely, all speakers who cannot easily, or even at all, produce speech. Silent-Speech Interfaces offer a way to communicate with a machine through a convenient speech recognition interface without the need for acoustic speech. To that end, the speech movements need to be captured and mapped to either text or acoustic speech. This dissertation proposes a new Silent-Speech Interface based on a newly developed measurement technology called Electro-Optical Stomatography and a novel parametric vocal tract model to facilitate real-time speech synthesis based on the measured data. The hardware was used to conduct command word recognition studies reaching state-of-the-art intra- and inter-individual performance. Furthermore, a study on using the hardware to control the vocal tract model in a direct articulationto- speech synthesis loop was also completed. While the intelligibility of consonants and connected speech was quite poor, the intelligibility of synthesized vowels was high. Promising ways to improve the system are discussed in the outlook.

Book Description
What Is Silent Speech Interface The term "silent speech interface" refers to a technology that enables communication through speech without the need of the sound that is produced when humans vocalize their speech sounds. In this sense, it can be thought of as a form of electronic lip reading. The computer is able to determine the phonemes that a person pronounces based on information about their speech motions and other non-auditory sources of information about those movements. After that, speech synthesis is utilized to reproduce the speech based on these components. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Silent Speech Interface Chapter 2: Speech Synthesis Chapter 3: Brain-computer Interface Chapter 4: Electromyography Chapter 5: Subvocalization Chapter 6: Gesture Recognition Chapter 7: Subvocal Recognition Chapter 8: Electroencephalography Chapter 9: Facial Electromyography Chapter 10: AlterEgo (II) Answering the public top questions about silent speech interface. (III) Real world examples for the usage of silent speech interface in many fields. Who This Book Is For Professionals, undergraduate and graduate students, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and those who want to go beyond basic knowledge or information for any kind of silent speech interface. Book Description
This book addresses different aspects of the research field and a wide range of topics in speech signal processing, speech recognition and language processing. The chapters are divided in three different sections: Speech Signal Modeling, Speech Recognition and Applications. The chapters in the first section cover some essential topics in speech signal processing used for building speech recognition as well as for speech synthesis systems: speech feature enhancement, speech feature vector dimensionality reduction, segmentation of speech frames into phonetic segments. The chapters of the second part cover speech recognition methods and techniques used to read speech from various speech databases and broadcast news recognition for English and non-English languages. The third section of the book presents various speech technology applications used for body conducted speech recognition, hearing impairment, multimodal interfaces and facial expression recognition.

Book Description
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 16th International Conference on Remote Engineering and Virtual Instrumentation (REV), held at the BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore, India on 3–6 February 2019. Today, online technologies are at the core of most fields of engineering, as well as of society as a whole, and are inseparably connected with Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems, collaborative networks and grids, cyber cloud technologies, service architectures, to name but a few. Since it was first held in, 2004, the REV conference has focused on the increasing use of the Internet for engineering tasks and the problems surrounding it. The 2019 conference demonstrated and discussed the fundamentals, applications and experiences in the field of online engineering and virtual instrumentation. It also presented guidelines for university-level courses on these topics, in view of the increasing globalization of education and the demand for teleworking, remote services and collaborative working environments.

Book Description
Speech is the natural medium of human communication, but audible speech can be overheard by bystanders and excludes speech-disabled people. This work presents a speech recognizer based on surface electromyography, where electric potentials of the facial muscles are captured by surface electrodes, allowing speech to be processed nonacoustically. A system which was state-of-the-art at the beginning of this book is substantially improved in terms of accuracy, flexibility, and robustness.

Book Description
Welcome to the Proceedings of ICCHP 2010! We were proud to welcome participants from more than 40 countries from all over the world to this year’s ICCHP. Since the late 1980s, it has been ICCHP’s mission to support and reflect development in the field of “Assistive Technologies,” eAccessibility and eInclusion. With a focus on scientific quality, ICCHP has become an important reference in our field. The 2010 conference and this collection of papers once again fulfilled this mission. The International Programme Committee, comprising 106 experts from all over the world, selected 147 full and 44 short papers out of 328 abstracts submitted to ICCHP. This acceptance ratio of about half of the submissions demonstrates our strict pursuit of scientific quality both of the programme and in particular of the proceedings in your hands. An impressive number of experts agreed to organize “Special Thematic Sessions” (STS) for ICCHP 2010. These STS help to bring the meeting into sharper focus in several key areas. In turn, this deeper level of focus helps to collate a state of the art and mainstream technical, social, cultural and political developments.

Book Description
Speech is the most spontaneous and natural means of communication, as well as the preferred modality for interacting with mobile or fixed electronic devices, but speech in-terfaces have drawbacks, such as a lack of user privacy; non-inclusivity for certain users; poor robustness in noisy conditions; and the difficulty of creating complex man-machine interfaces. The Special Issue "Future Speech Interfaces with Sensors and Machine Intelligence" assembles eleven contributions that cover multimodal and silent speech interfaces; lip reading applications; novel sensors for speech interfaces; and enhanced speech inclusivity tools for future speech interfaces. The articles make important improvements beyond the state of the art, advancing the state of the art to new frontiers in some cases. Short summaries of all articles, grouped by topic, are presented, followed by a global commentary and evaluation.
