Book Description
The problem of describing the velocity profiles and other flow data in a square duct was investigated using the boundary layer description due to Cornish. The existence of a negative local free stream velocity with components due to wake over the friction velocity function was discovered and a method of describing the profile as a function of its position within the pipe was deduced. A method was determined to predict total quantity flow in a square duct as a function of both centerline velocity and static pressure loss down the duct. Profiles were measured at a wide range of centerline velocities, and the theories were verified experimentally. (Author).

Characterisation of Turbulent Duct Flows
Author: Bayode Owolabi
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 303019745X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 165
Book Description
This book presents several new findings in the field of turbulent duct flows, which are important for a range of industrial applications. It presents both high-quality experiments and cutting-edge numerical simulations, providing a level of insight and rigour rarely found in PhD theses. The scientific advancements concern the effect of the Earth’s rotation on large duct flows, the experimental confirmation of marginal turbulence in a pressure-driven square duct flow (previously only predicted in simulations), the identification of similar marginal turbulence in wall-driven flows using simulations (for the first time by any means) and, on a separate but related topic, a comprehensive experimental study on the phenomenon of drag reduction via polymer additives in turbulent duct flows. In turn, the work on drag reduction resulted in a correlation that provides a quantitative prediction of drag reduction based on a single, measurable material property of the polymer solution, regardless of the flow geometry or concentration. The first correlation of its kind, it represents an important advancement from both a scientific and practical perspective.

Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts
Author: R. K. Shah
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483191303
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 492
Book Description
Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts is a sourcebook for compact heat exchanger analytical data. This book describes the analytical solutions for laminar fluid flow and forced convection heat transfer in circular and noncircular pipes, including applicable differential equations and boundary conditions involving velocity and temperature problems of fluid flow. The book also discusses fluid flow—how much power is required to pump fluids through the heat exchanger, as well as the heat transfer—the determination of q" distribution, and the temperature of fluid and walls. The text also analyzes the coolant or heat transfer fluid flows in a nuclear power reactor composed of a bundle of circular section fuel rods located inside a round tube. R.A. Axford addresses fluid flow and heat transfers results for the rod bundle geometry in "Heat Transfer in Rod Bundles." The book also provides an overview and guidelines that can be used for the designer and the applied mathematician. This book is suitable for engineers working in electronics, aerospace, instrumentation, and biomechanics that use cooling or heating exchanges or solar collection systems.
