Book Description
God specializes in makeovers. —Mountain Home Amish proverb Vibrant, laughing, and with a wunderbaar gift of quilt design from God, Malena Miller is always in the middle of the doings among the Amish Youngie in Mountain Home, Montana. And there are big doings on the Rocking Diamond, the Englisch dude ranch next door to the Circle M. When Malena and her brothers are offered jobs helping a movie star learn how to be a cowboy for his upcoming picture, Malena wonders if her father’s silence and her mother’s worry are worth the generous salary. And then there’s Cord McLean, the actor, who definitely prefers her teaching methods to anyone else’s. Alden Stolzfus has been sweet on Malena ever since his family moved to the valley, but he’s too shy to tell her the truth in his heart. It hurts to watch this Hollywood bad boy gradually work his way closer to Malena, under the guise of learning about ranch life. If Cord is getting a makeover to turn him into a cowboy, then maybe Alden had better take a hard look at himself, too. All the bashful blacksmith has to do is make himself over … and become the hero of her dreams. The Montana Millers. They believe in faith, family, and the land. They’ll need all three when love comes to the Circle M! The Amish Cowboy’s Makeover is the fifth novel in the Amish Cowboys of Montana romance series. Though the books can be read as standalones, there is a family thread running through them all. No strong language, just a loving kiss and a guaranteed happily ever after. If you like books by Loree Lough, Mary Lantz, or Emma Cartwright, you're in the right place. Enjoy!

Book Description
Anna is eager to begin a new chapter in her life as a Lancaster County tour guide in the picturesque area where her Plain grandmother once stayed. Anna wishes she could talk with her grandmother about those long-ago days, but the elderly woman suffers from Alzheimer's, and beyond a vague hint about an old stone wall, much about that time is a mystery. Thankfully, Martin Nolt, a handsome Mennonite, takes the young Beachy Amish woman under his wing for her training, familiarizing her with the many local highlights, including Peaceful Meadows Horse Retreat, which serves children with special needs. The retreat's mission so inspires Anna that she returns to volunteer, and she quickly strikes up a friendship with Gabe Allgyer, the young Amish widower who manages it. As Anna grows closer to both Martin and Gabe, she finds herself faced with a difficult choice--one in potential conflict with the expectations of her parents. Will Anna find true love and the truth about her grandmother's past in Lancaster County? Or will she find only heartbreak?

Book Description
How the Amish have adopted certain digital tools in ways that allow them to work and live according to their own value system. The Amish are famous for their disconnection from the modern world and all its devices. But, as Lindsay Ems shows in Virtually Amish, Old Order Amish today are selectively engaging with digital technology. The Amish need digital tools to participate in the economy—websites for ecommerce, for example, and cell phones for communication on the road—but they have developed strategies for making limited use of these tools while still living and working according to the values of their community. The way they do this, Ems suggests, holds lessons for all of us about resisting the negative forces of what has been called “high-tech capitalism.” Ems shows how the Amish do not allow technology to drive their behavior; instead, they actively configure their sociotechnical world to align with their values and protect their community’s autonomy. Drawing on extensive ethnographic fieldwork conducted in two Old Order Amish settlements in Indiana, Ems explores explicit rules and implicit norms as innovations for resisting negative impacts of digital technology. She describes the ingenious contraptions the Amish devise—including “the black-box phone,” a landline phone attached to a device that connects to a cellular network when plugged into a car’s cigarette lighter—and considers the value of human-centered approaches to communication. Non-Amish technology users would do well to take note of Amish methods of adopting digital technologies in ways that empower people and acknowledge their shared humanity.

Book Description
Bob Brawley is thumbing through the newspaper one Sunday afternoon, looking for something to distract his mind from the freefall that has left his marriage with Shelly in near shambles. He comes across an article that describes the Amish lifestyle and its customs and passes the paper to Shelly, beckoning her to read the article. Agreeing to remove themselves, if only for a weekend, from the toxic, pernicious air that has filled their home, Bob and Shelly locate the Amish community and soon find themselves in the home of Jacob and Katie Beiler, where they learn about the Amish persecution, their relocation to America, their traditions, their beliefs, plain dress, and methods of farming. When Bob asks Jacob about the possibility of his family living in the Amish settlement, he learns that he would need the bishops approval as well as a sponsor. Returning to Oklahoma City, Bob and his family miss their Amish friends and feel led to return to the quaint, pastoral Missouri settlement. After Jacob locates a vacant, two-story, dilapidated farmhouse for Bob and his family, they pack a travel trailer. Join them as they discover what it means to live a simpler life in Adopted by the Amish.
