Book Description
The Soviets have cut off food and fuel supplies to West Berlin in a final attempt to force a stranglehold over the city. The Allied response is the Berlin airlift: thousands of planes carrying supplies - a lifeline to the people of the city. A chance for heroism perhaps, but not for Neil Fraser or Bill Saeton. One is an ex-RAF pilot on the run from the law, the other will stop at nothing to build the perfect aircraft engine. In an abandoned hangar in the British countryside, tensions rise to boiling point.

Book Description
The ATL-98 Carvair is a truly unusual aircraft. Converted from 19 C-54 World War II transport planes and two DC-4 airliners into a small fleet of air ferries by Aviation Traders of Southend, England, the Carvair allowed commercial air passengers to accompany their automobiles onboard the aircraft. The planes were dispersed throughout the world, operating for 75 airlines and transporting cars, royalty, rock groups, refugees, whales, rockets, military vehicles, gold, and even nuclear material. After more than 45 years, two Carvairs were in 2008 still in service. This comprehensive history of the ATL-98 Carvair, begins with corporate histories and profiles of key players, including William Patterson, Donald Douglas, and Freddie Laker. Four chapters illustrate the evolution of the car-ferry as a viable aircraft, the history of Aviation Traders, engineering details incorporated into the Carvair's production, and major Carvair operators. Chapters on each of the fleet's 21 planes provide individual histories and anecdotes. Seven appendices provide several kinds of data and the book is fully indexed.

Book Description
The tools and techniques to fully leverage coplanar technology Coplanar Microwave Integrated Circuits sets forth the theoretical underpinnings of coplanar waveguides and thoroughly examines the various coplanar components such as discontinuities, lumped elements, resonators, couplers, and filters, which are essential for microwave integrated circuit design. Based on the results of his own research findings, the author effectively demonstrates the many advantages of coplanar waveguide technology for modern circuit design. Following a brief introductory chapter, the text thoroughly covers the material needed for successful design and realization of coplanar microwave circuits, including: * Fundamental transmission properties of coplanar waveguides using a full wave analysis * Detailed analysis of most discontinuities used in coplanar waveguide design * Lumped elements in coplanar technology that are needed in circuit design * Development of software for coplanar circuit design, including a CD-ROM containing a test version of the software for modeling coplanar circuit components and circuits * Application of derived results to build more complex components such as lumped element filters, waveguide filters, millimeter wave filters, end-coupled waveguide structures, waveguide couplers, and Wilkinson couplers for different frequency ranges in coplanar technology The final chapter focuses on special coplanar microwave integrated circuits that have been developed using the software presented in the text. The book concludes with a thought-provoking discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of the coplanar technique. Extensive use of figures and tables helps readers easily digest and visualize complex concepts. A bibliography is included at the end of each chapter for further study and research. Coplanar Microwave Integrated Circuits is recommended for graduate students and engineers in RF microwaves who want to reap all the advantages and possibilities of coplanar technology.

Book Description
Much has been written about the famous fighters and bombers of the Luftwaffe which proved so successful in the invasion of Poland, the Battle of France, the Battle of Britain and in the early operations in Eastern Europe. Little attention, however, has been focused on the Luftwaffe’s transport aircraft which played a vital role in supplying German forces in every theatre. In early May 1940, the battle of Norway was nearing its climax, but General Eduard Dietl’s 3rd Jäger division was blocked by the Allies in the Narvik area. Only the Luftwaffe could provide effective assistance to the encircled troops. The special purpose groups KGr.zbV107 and KGr.zbV108 were ordered to supply the division by air. Transports delivered ammunition, food, and even boots for German sailors who found themselves on land. This was the first of a number of occasions in which the Luftwaffe’s transport Gruppen, often equipped with the slow, but reliable Junkers 52, created an ‘air bridge’ to supply troops cut off or surrounded by the enemy. The transport Gruppen had previously been involved in supporting the advance of German forces during the Polish campaign, this being followed by the capture of Denmark, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Greece. During Operation Barbarossa, German troops were dispersed over the vast expanses of Russia. It was a country without roads where the normal supply by trucks and trains to the troops was difficult and sometimes impossible. Often, it was only the Luftwaffe’s transport aircraft that kept the Germans fighting. But with Hitler’s insistence that there should be no retreat despite the overwhelming strength of the Soviet forces, his Germans armies found themselves surrounded and the Luftwaffe had to create air bridges to supply the beleaguered troops. Nowhere was this more evident than the Battle of Stalingrad, Göring having convinced Hitler that the Luftwaffe was capable of keeping the Sixth Army supplied. As the war increasingly turned against the Third Reich, air bridges were vital in supporting and maintaining its garrisons in places such as Demyansk, Holm, Korsun, Budapest, Breslau, and many others. Hitler’s Air Bridges presents the story of the Luftwaffe’s transport Gruppen more extensively and in greater detail than ever before.

Book Description
The early 1990s marked a critical turning point in the relationship between the United States and Peru. Prior to the election of Albert Fujimori in 1990, the relationship between governments had been contentious. Fujimori, however, sought to work together with the United States regarding issues such as security threats, free-market reform and narcotics control. Yet even with this new spirit of cooperation, the two governments still clashed over international standards of democracy and human rights at a time when most Latin American countries were much more democratic. This work traces the relationship between the two countries from 1990-2000, examining political and military issues, including drug trafficking, guerrillas, human rights violations and the US role in the 1995 war between Peru and Ecuador.
