Excerpt from Agricultural Conservation Program: Statistical Summary, 1961 This annual publication brings together comprehensive data collected by county and State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committees relative to conservation measures performed on farms participating in the 1961 Agricultural Conservation Program. The tables and maps in this publication are designed to permit detailed analyses of the various conservation practices and program provisions, including information with respect to 1961 participation, assistance, pooling agreements, the Naval Stores Conservation Program and other re lated data. Summary and comparison tables showing selected pertinent data from previous years are included for use in comparing and evaluating 1961 and earlier program results. Information on the extent of conservation measures performed under the 1961 Agricultural Conservation Program and amounts of assistance for such measures was obtained from a complete tabulation of individual farm data. The amounts shown under Assistance are tabulations of the Federal cost shares paid to farmers for performing practices. The Assistance shown for each practice does not include any of the funds for Small Cost-share Increases which are required by law. Excerpt from Agricultural Conservation Program Statistical Summary, 1951 The Agricultural Conservation Program, operating as a government-farmer partnership, provides assistance to encourage and aid the individual farmer in carrying out soil and water conservation practices essential to the national welfare. This assistance is in the form of materials, -services and financial aid and it averages about 50 percent of the out-of-pocket cost of such conservation practices. All farmers are eligible to cooperate in this program but cooperation is entirely voluntary. Local administration is by county and community farmer-committees elected each year by their neighbors. This program is aimed at obtaining maximum conservation on the largest possible number of farms. Soil and water conservation practices approved for assistance are those which are generally not being carried out to the extent needed to insure a continuing and expanding agricultural production. Excerpt from Agricultural Conservation Program: Statistical Summary, 1958 This book is an annual publication of the Agricultural Conservation Program Service which brings together data relative to conservation measures performed on farms participating in the Agricultural Conservation Program and information with respect to participation, assistance, pooling agreements, and other related data. Information with respect to the extent of conservation measures performed under the 1956 Agricultural Conservation Program and amounts of assistance given for such measures was obtained from performance reports filed by participants in the program. The amounts shown under Assistance were obtained by tabulating the actual amount of funds paid as the Federal cost share to the farmer for the performance of the practice. The amount of assistance shown for the conservation practices in this publication varies from the Credit Value data which was shown in publications relating to programs prior to the 1951 Agricultural Conservation Program in that the Credit Value was not identical with the amount of assistance actually given (see Agricultural Conservation Program Statistical Summary 1955) The Assistance shown for each practice does not include any of the funds for Small cost-share Increases which are required by legislation.
