Book Description
On March 31, 1968, over 500 Black nationalists convened in Detroit to begin the process of securing independence from the United States. Many concluded that Black Americans' best remaining hope for liberation was the creation of a sovereign nation-state, the Republic of New Afrika (RNA). New Afrikan citizens traced boundaries that encompassed a large portion of the South--including South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana--as part of their demand for reparation. As champions of these goals, they framed their struggle as one that would allow the descendants of enslaved people to choose freely whether they should be citizens of the United States. New Afrikans also argued for financial restitution for the enslavement and subsequent inhumane treatment of Black Americans. The struggle to "Free the Land" remains active to this day. This book is the first to tell the full history of the RNA and the New Afrikan Independence Movement. Edward Onaci shows how New Afrikans remade their lifestyles and daily activities to create a self-consciously revolutionary culture, and argues that the RNA's tactics and ideology were essential to the evolution of Black political struggles. Onaci expands the story of Black Power politics, shedding new light on the long-term legacies of mid-century Black Nationalism.

Book Description
Afrika is currently on a path of development that is not sustainable, because we confuse modernisation with Westernisation. This Afrikan-Western paradox prevents us from building a modern, dynamic Afrikan society - and it will take highly visionary and transformational leadership on our part as Afrikans to reinvent ourselves and build a truly modern Afrikan society. What would the world be like if its institutions were based on the values and practices of a traditional African village? In Leading Afrika, Mandivamba Rukuni re-evaluates the concepts underlying traditional African leadership principles and systems, and illustrates how these can form a modern basis for the African Renaissance. By arguing for the inclusive and traditional values expressed in the philosophy and practices of Unhu-Ubuntu-Botho, the author reminds the reader of historic successes in Africa, and illustrates how leaders globally at all levels can draw on traditional African values the better to lead their nations' people, whether at home, in the community, in business or in government.

Book Description
Due to popular demand for the first edition, Mark Batty Publisher proudly announces a reissue of this title in paperback. Because the book sets the record straight about how colonial powers suppressed the rich cultural and artistic histories of Afrikan alphabets, this title should appeal to individual readers as well as schools and universities. Both entertaining and anecdotal, Afrikan Alphabets presents a wealth of highly graphical, attractive and inspiring illustrations. Writing systems across the Afrikan continent and the Diaspora are analyzed and illustrated; syllabaries, paintings, pictographs, ideographs and symbols are compared and contrasted. This colourful, extensively illustrated and informative visual journey will be of interest to everyone seeking inspiration from, or more information about, Afrikan culture and art.

Book Description
This tell-all memoir reveals the details behind Sunday Times journalist Mzilikazi wa Afrika's exposure of the R1.7 billion lease scandal between police commissioner Bheki Cele and property tycoon Roux Shabangu, for which he was infamously arrested in 2010. It is also the riveting account of how a neglected boy in an unknown village became one of South Africa's most awarded investigative reporters and found himself at the receiving end of the corruption that had defeated those he helped put in power. Fearless in the face of corrupt authorities with sinister political motives, and fervent about justice, Wa Afrika's life was characterised by resistance to oppression and inequality from an early age. Destined to defend and uphold the principles of democracy, his story is the inspiring tale of an ordinary man, armed with a pen, who challenged the proverbial giant.
