Book Description
Provides answers to important questions concerning the sampling, isolation, and analysis methods used to determine the chemicals of health concern that are in drinking waters, waste waters, and natural waters. Discusses analytical protocols for concentrating organic compounds for toxicity testing, reverse osmosis to isolate organic pollutants from water, and synthetic polymers for concentrating organic chemicals from water. Offers novel methods to isolate and fractionate organic chemicals in water samples, isolation methods to collect large amounts of organic chemicals from water, biological testing of waterborne organic compounds, and the toxicological testing-analysis interface. A valuable reference for researchers involved in environmental toxic contamination analysis and identification, as well as research biologists, pharmaceutical chemists, environmentalists, toxicologists, and pharmacologists.

Book Description
For the last decade, concern over drinking water safety has rapidly increased. Revelations of chemical contamination of surface and ground waters, and the realization that drinking water treatment by traditional methods such as chlorination may introduce unforeseen new problems, has focused the attention of the public as well as the research community on these issues. Crossing disciplines, this timely new book addresses the whole issue, combining the expertise of specialists in engineering, biology and chemistry. An ACS Environmental Chemistry Division Symposium book.

Book Description
With an increasing population, use of new and diverse chemicals that can enter the water supply, and emergence of new microbial pathogens, the U.S. federal government is faced with a regulatory dilemma: Where should it focus its attention and limited resources to ensure safe drinking water supplies for the future? Identifying Future Drinking Water Contaminants is based on a 1998 workshop on emerging drinking water contaminants. It includes a dozen papers that were presented on new and emerging microbiological and chemical drinking water contaminants, associated analytical and water treatment methods for their detection and removal, and existing and proposed environmental databases to assist in their proactive identification and regulation. The papers are preceded by a conceptual approach and related recommendations to EPA for the periodic creation of future Drinking Water Contaminant Candidate Lists (CCLsâ€"produced every five yearsâ€"include currently unregulated chemical and microbiological substances that are known or anticipated to occur in public water systems and that may pose health risks).

Book Description
During the past ten years a variety of methods involving mass spectrom etry have been developed for the analysis of environmentally important compounds. Much has been accomplished in that period to solve some of the important problems in the field. Growth of this methodology and its accomplishments has reached the point where an individual scientist can no longer have an in-depth knowledge of all the areas involved. We have attempted to provide this in-depth picture to those scientists con cerned by having the important topics treated by experts in the subject matter. In order to provide all the relevant material in one volume we begin with the general topics which provide the basic background material necessary to understand the techniques discussed in the in-depth topics. These general chapters are kept brief, containing only the essentials needed by the working scientist to deal with the practical applications. References in these chapters are chosen to permit a more complete study of each chapter. The concept for this book was developed during the activities of two of the editors under a NATO travel grant. These editors gratefully acknowledge this support which made the initial planning of this book possible. The editors would like to thank the individual authors of each chap ter for their cooperation and generously giving of their time for this project.

Book Description
Significance and Treatment of Volatile Organic Compounds in Water Supplies reviews EPA-approved analytical methods for VOC analysis, QA/QC, data quality objectives and limits of detection. It covers current methods for the assessment of health effects, including toxicity and carcinogenicity. If you only purchase one book on VOCs-this should be it. Leading authorities present the latest essential information on VOCs in drinking water. This book will be a valuable resource to personnel involved with VOC contamination, treatment, costs, and regulation.
