Book Description
Recent advances in our understanding of complex composite media, especially chiral media for microwave applications, suggest the feasibility of creating novel materials with unusual properties and the possibility of constructing new microwave devices using such materials. The emphasis of the book is on bi-anisotropic materials, whose most interesting feature is the magnetoelectric interaction of the fields. The materials are expected to supply useful applications in radar technology, aerospace, microwave engineering, manufacturing technology, etc., such as absorbers for low-reflectivity shields, reciprocal phase shifters, polarization transformers. The first experiments with artificial bi-anisotropic media have been successfully carried out.

Book Description
The NATO Advanced Research Workshop Bianisotropics 2002 was held in th Marrakesh, Morocco, during 8-11 May 2002. This was the 9 International Conference on Electromagnetics of Complex Media, belonging to a series of meetings where the focus is on electromagnetics of chiral, bianisotropic, and other materials that may respond to electric and magnetic field excitations in special manner. The first of these meetings was held in Espoo, Finland (1993), and the following venues were Gomel, Belarus (1993), Perigueux, France (1994), State College, Pennsylvania, USA (1995), the rivers and channels between St. Petersburg and Moscow in Russia (1996), Glasgow, Scotland (1997), Brunswick, Germany (1998), and Lisbon, Portugal (2000). The present book contains full articles of several of the presentations that were given in the Marrakesh conference. In Bianisotropics 2002, 8 re view lectures, 14 invited lectures and 68 contributed talks and posters were presented. Of these presentations, after a double review process, 28 contributions have achieved their final form on the pages to follow. From the contributions ofthe meeting, also another publication is being planned: a Special Issue of the journal Electromagnetics will be devoted to complex materials. Guest editors for this issue are Keith W. Whites and Said Zouhdi. The chairmen of Bianisotropics 2002conference were Said Zouhdi (Pierre et Marie Curie University - Paris) and Mohamed Arsalane (Cadi Ayyad University - Marrakesh), who were assisted by Scientists from Moroccan Universities and the International Bianisotropics Conference Committee.

Book Description
The contributions to this volume deliberate the electrical and magnetic properties of materials relevant to the design of unconventional antennas, microwave circuits/components, anti-reflection media and coatings, EMI shielding structures, radomes, etc. Though a classical research topic, some recent advancements in technology have led to new capabilities to create and control fine-scale structures. This has inspired scientists to develop new materials with exceptionally high permittivity or permeability, as well as metamaterials (or negative index materials) with unusual electromagnetic properties. Novel materials based on the use of active devices to control their electromagnetic performance have also been proposed. The multi-disciplinary nature of these new materials has brought together researchers from materials science, physics and electrical engineering to explore and deepen our current understanding of electromagnetic wave propagation. A wide range of new commercial/defence applications of these materials is expected to emerge in the near future.

Book Description
Advanced Electromagnetic Computation with MATLAB® discusses commercial electromagnetic software, widely used in the industry. Algorithms of Finite Differences, Moment method, Finite Element method and Finite Difference Time Domain method are illustrated. Hand-computed simple examples and MATLAB-coded examples are used to explain the concepts behind the algorithms. Case studies of practical examples from transmission lines, waveguides, and electrostatic problems are given so students are able to develop the code and solve the problems. Two new chapters including advanced methods based on perturbation techniques and three dimensional finite element examples from radiation scattering are included.

Book Description
Advances in Time-Domain Computational Electromagnetic Methods Discover state-of-the-art time domain electromagnetic modeling and simulation algorithms Advances in Time-Domain Computational Electromagnetic Methods delivers a thorough exploration of recent developments in time domain computational methods for solving complex electromagnetic problems. The book discusses the main time domain computational electromagnetics techniques, including finite-difference time domain (FDTD), finite-element time domain (FETD), discontinuous Galerkin time domain (DGTD), time domain integral equation (TDIE), and other methods in electromagnetic, multiphysics modeling and simulation, and antenna designs. The book bridges the gap between academic research and real engineering applications by comprehensively surveying the full picture of current state-of-the-art time domain electromagnetic simulation techniques. Among other topics, it offers readers discussions of automatic load balancing schemes for DG-FETD/SETD methods and convolution quadrature time domain integral equation methods for electromagnetic scattering. Advances in Time-Domain Computational Electromagnetic Methods also includes: Introductions to cylindrical, spherical, and symplectic FDTD, as well as FDTD for metasurfaces with GSTC and FDTD for nonlinear metasurfaces Explorations of FETD for dispersive and nonlinear media and SETD-DDM for periodic/ quasi-periodic arrays Discussions of TDIE, including explicit marching-on-in-time solvers for second-kind time domain integral equations, TD-SIE DDM, and convolution quadrature time domain integral equation methods for electromagnetic scattering Treatments of deep learning, including time domain electromagnetic forward and inverse modeling using a differentiable programming platform Ideal for undergraduate and graduate students studying the design and development of various kinds of communication systems, as well as professionals working in these fields, Advances in Time-Domain Computational Electromagnetic Methods is also an invaluable resource for those taking advanced graduate courses in computational electromagnetic methods and simulation techniques.

Book Description
Electromagnetic materials can be widely found in daily life, especially in electronic devices. The high-frequency properties (permittivity or permeability) of these materials strongly depend on structure, composition, shape, and orientation. Therefore, this book intends to present readers with advances not only in materials science (including metamaterials), but also in measurements and novel functional applications that demand the special properties of electromagnetic materials.

Book Description
Recent advances in the fields of materials science and electromagnetics indicate that materials can be synthesized with any desired electromagnetic properties. Electromagnetics of Complex Media provides the appropriate understanding of optimum properties for a given application, addressing the needs of researchers who study electromagnetics as a base for those disciplines using complex materials. Examples include electrooptics, plasma science and engineering, microwave engineering, and solid state devices. The book emphasizes these aspects: Dispersive medium Tunneling of power through a plasma slab by evanescent waves Characteristic waves in an anisotropic medium Transient medium and frequency shifting Green's function for unlike anisotropic media Perturbation technique for unlike anisotropic media Adiabatic analysis for modified source wave All of the above topics use one-dimensional models. Brief discussions also include chiral media, surface waves, and periodic media. The text focuses on bringing out the major effects due to each kind of complexity in the medium properties. A plasma column in the presence of a static magnetic field is at once dispersive, anisotropic, and inhomogeneous - thus the author uses plasma as the basic medium to illustrate some aspects of the transformation of an electromagnetic wave by a complex medium. Early chapters use a mathematical model that usually has one kind of complexity. The medium is often assumed to be unbounded in space or has a simple plane boundary. The field variables and the parameters are often assumed to vary in one spatial coordinate. This eliminates the use of heavy mathematics and permits the focus to be on the effect. Electromagnetics of Complex Media aims to stimulate experimental and additional theoretical and numerical work on the effects that can be obtained by the temporal and spatial modification of the magnetoplasma parameters. The book also provides the new researcher with a quick primer into the theory of using magnetoplasmas for the coherent generation of tunable radiation.
