Book Description
A3 & HIS ALGEBRA is the true story of a struggling young boy from Chicago's west side who grew to become a force in American mathematics. For nearly 50 years, A. A. Albert thrived at the University of Chicago, one of the world's top centers for algebra. His "pure research" in algebra found its way into modern computers, rocket guidance systems, cryptology, and quantum mechanics, the basic theory behind atomic energy calculations. This first-hand account of the life of a world-renowned American mathematician is written by Albert's daughter. Her memoir, which favors a general audience, offers a personal and revealing look at the multidimensional life of an academic who had a lasting impact on his profession. SOME QUOTATIONS FROM PROFESSOR ALBERT: "There are really few bad students of mathematics. There are, instead, many bad teachers and bad curricula..." "The difficulty of learning mathematics is increased by the fact that in so many high schools this very difficult subject is considered to be teachable by those whose major subject is language, botany, or even physical education." "It is still true that in a majority of American universities the way to find the Department of Mathematics is to ask for the location of the oldest and most decrepit building on campus." "The production of a single scientist of first magnitude will have a greater impact on our civilization than the production of fifty mediocre Ph.D.'s." "Freedom is having the time to do research...Even in mathematics there are 'fashions'. This doesn't mean that the researcher is controlled by them. Many go their own way, ignoring the fashionable. That's part of the strength of a great university."

Book Description
Integrable systems are related to algebraic geometry in many different ways. This book deals with some aspects of this relation, the main focus being on the algebraic geometry of the level manifolds of integrable systems and the construction of integrable systems, starting from algebraic geometric data. For a rigorous account of these matters, integrable systems are defined on affine algebraic varieties rather than on smooth manifolds. The exposition is self-contained and is accessible at the graduate level; in particular, prior knowledge of integrable systems is not assumed.

Book Description
Noncommutative Polynomial Algebras of Solvable Type and Their Modules is the first book to systematically introduce the basic constructive-computational theory and methods developed for investigating solvable polynomial algebras and their modules. In doing so, this book covers: A constructive introduction to solvable polynomial algebras and Gröbner basis theory for left ideals of solvable polynomial algebras and submodules of free modules The new filtered-graded techniques combined with the determination of the existence of graded monomial orderings The elimination theory and methods (for left ideals and submodules of free modules) combining the Gröbner basis techniques with the use of Gelfand-Kirillov dimension, and the construction of different kinds of elimination orderings The computational construction of finite free resolutions (including computation of syzygies, construction of different kinds of finite minimal free resolutions based on computation of different kinds of minimal generating sets), etc. This book is perfectly suited to researchers and postgraduates researching noncommutative computational algebra and would also be an ideal resource for teaching an advanced lecture course.

Book Description
This International Conference on Clifford AlgebrfU and Their Application, in Math ematical Phy,ic, is the third in a series of conferences on this theme, which started at the Univer, ity of Kent in Canterbury in 1985 and was continued at the Univer,iU de, Science, et Technique, du Languedoc in Montpellier in 1989. Since the start of this series of Conferences the research fields under consideration have evolved quite a lot. The number of scientific papers on Clifford Algebra, Clifford Analysis and their impact on the modelling of physics phenomena have increased tremendously and several new books on these topics were published. We were very pleased to see old friends back and to wellcome new guests who by their inspiring talks contributed fundamentally to tracing new paths for the future development of this research area. The Conference was organized in Deinze, a small rural town in the vicinity of the University town Gent. It was hosted by De Ceder, a vacation and seminar center in a green area, a typical landscape of Flanders's "plat pays" . The Conference was attended by 61 participants coming from 18 countries; there were 10 main talks on invitation, 37 contributions accepted by the Organizing Com mittee and a poster session. There was also a book display of Kluwer Academic Publishers. As in the Proceedings of the Canterbury and Montpellier conferences we have grouped the papers accordingly to the themes they are related to: Clifford Algebra, Clifford Analysis, Classical Mechanics, Mathematical Physics and Physics Models.
