Gwilym George Davis (1857-1918) was a famous American physician. He completed his post-graduate studies abroad, studying at the University of Gottingen and also in England. He was appointed the second professor of orthopaedic surgery and served at the University of Pennsylvania between 1911 and 1918. He was also a consulting surgeon to St. Joseph's Hospital, a surgeon to the Episcopal Hospital, a surgeon to the Orthopedic Hospital and an orthopedic surgeon to the University and Philadelphia General Hospitals. He was Fellow of the American Surgical Association, the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery and the Philadelphia College of Physicians. He was also a member of the American Society of Clinical Surgery, the American Orthopedic Association and the American Academy of Medicine. He wrote a textbook of applied anatomy for surgeons that was reprinted in nine editions and was translated into Italian.
