Excerpt from A Practical Treatise on Operative Dentistry Points of Deposit - The points at which salivary calculus is deposited in the greatest quantities upon the teeth, are in the vicinity of the orifices of the sali vary ducts; and hence it is found most abundant on the lingual surfaces of the inferior anterior teeth, and on the buccal surfaces of the superior molars. Fre quently, also, it collects in considerable quantities upon the external surfaces of the inferior front teeth. The points upon the teeth to which it most readily attaches, are at the necks, immediately beneath the free margin of the gum, and at the termination of the enamel where it is thickest. A nucleus once formed, and it encroaches upon the crown of the tooth, if no means are employed to prevent its lodgment, at a rate determined by the condition of the saliva. It is deposited first and most abundantly on the necks of the teeth, because here the saliva first comes in contact with these organs, and here remains for the longest periods and in the largest quantities. The Etruscans and the History of Dentistry
Author: Marshall J. Becker
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1317194659
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 445
Book Description
The Etruscans and the History of Dentistry offers a study of the construction and use of gold dental appliances in ancient Etruscan culture, and their place within the framework of a general history of dentistry, with special emphasis on appliances, from Bronze Age Mesopotamia and Egypt to modern Europe and the Americas. Included are many of the ancient literary sources that refer to dentistry - or the lack thereof - in Greece and Rome, as well as the archaeological evidence of ancient dental health. The book challenges many past works in exposing modern scholars’ fallacies about ancient dentistry, while presenting the incontrovertible evidence of the Etruscans’ seemingly modern attitudes to cosmetic dentistry.

Book Description
Excerpt from The Practice of Dentistry: A Practical Treatise Upon the General Practice of Dentistry, Operative and Prosthetic, Exclusive of Orthodontic Practice The authors have spared no effort to bring the present publication up to the accepted advanced standards of dental practice, and to present these as concisely as in their judgment appeared prudent. A Practical Treatise on the Operations of Surgical and Mechanical Dentistry (Classic Reprint)
Author: Samuel C. Harbert
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780282754471
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 224
Book Description
Excerpt from A Practical Treatise on the Operations of Surgical and Mechanical Dentistry The Science of Dentistry has, in accordance with the advancement of the art, become divided into two separate branches that of Dental Surgery appertaining to the opera tions on the teeth in their natural condition; and the mechanical, or that part which provides a substitute for the deficiencies that occur in nature. Several useful works have been published on the opera tions of Dental Surgery, while the mechanical department, as yet in its infancy, has received but little notice. The manipulations and valuable formulas, essential to the proper performance of the art, have been almost universally held under the seal of secrecy, so that but little becomes known except it be acquired by actual experiment. Many recent discoveries and improvements have conduced to its importance and usefulness. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
