Book Description
Seabreezes are the lifeblood of cruising and racing sailors - but they are a fickle resource and it's vital to be able to predict and read the situations when they will blow strongly, change direction (annoyingly) or vanish altogether. This is a highly practical handbook from Alan Watts, the renowned meteorology author, on a subject only lightly touched upon in other books. Here he helps seafarers of all types (dinghy sailors, yacht racers, big boat cruisers, etc) to capitalise on when the seabreeze will occur and from what direction. He will explain the relevance of: - Time of day - Sea/land temperature - Local topography (bays, cliffs, headlands, etc) - Pressure systems and their effect on the arrival and duration of seabreezes Illustrated with photos, wind charts, box-outs, checklists, and tips and hints, this is the book that will help sailors to use the wind efficiently, whether to cruise or race successfully.

Book Description
"25 Albertype plates from photographs of Korea by Percival Lowell. Forbes Albertype Co., Boston, did the plates. This copy also contains two handwritten notes by Lowell laid in. One is of autobiograhical interest as Lowell gives a short resume in his career to this date. The pictures by him, as reproduced by the Forbes company, are striking and the tonal range of the collotypes is particularly effective in this book." -- Hanson collection catalog, p. 88.

Book Description
In Reading Japanese Haikai Poetry Herbert Jonsson makes an inquiry into the multitude ways in which Japanese linked haikai poetry has been read and understood. A number of poems composed by the eighteenth-century master Yosa Buson are analyzed in great detail. Although closely related to the popular haiku, haikai is often regarded as difficult for non-specialists, but this study offers the reader a wealth of explanations, displaying the varied perspectives available. The first part of the book consists of a thorough investigation of how these poems have been interpreted in the Japanese commentary tradition. The second concluding part offers an innovative study of the poetics of scent (nioizuke), essential for understanding the creative force of this poetry.
