Book Description
Beginning in the 1950s, Edwin Wolf 2nd embarked on a biblio'l. quest to reconstruct the library of Benjamin Franklin, which was the largest & best private library in Amer. at the time of his death & was subsequently dispersed. The contents of Franklin's library were virtually unknown until Wolf identified the unique shelfmarks that Franklin used to organize his books. That discovery allowed Wolf to locate 2,700 titles in 1,000 vols. that Franklin actually owned. Wolf also identified a further 700 titles owned by Franklin. After wolf's death, Kevin Hayes took up the project & brought it to fruition. This catalogue includes almost 4,000 books known to have been owned by Franklin, & the Intro. tells the complete story of Franklin's library, its dispersal, & its reconstruction.

Book Description
Drawn from the Prussian Academy edition of Kant's collected works, these letters make it possible to trace the development of Kant's thought from his earliest worries about the topics discussed in the Critique of Pure Reason to his attempts in later life to meet the objections of his critics and erstwhile disciples. "Perhaps the major value of these writings is their demonstration of Kant's own attitude towards his philosophical works."—Paul Arthur Schilpp, Saturday Review

Book Description
A murder in Main Quad, a near demise high on Mont Blanc, the lady who survived hanging and became a celebrity, Lord Nuffield's dreadful visits to the dentist, and the surgeon who operated on his own hernia using strychnine: all pointers to medical mysteries and advances. This book aims to entertain and inform the reader interested in the advancement of medical science. The author presents seven distinct areas of endeavour in which he has been involved during an Oxford career undertaking original research in engineering, materials science, anaesthesia and physiology while working as a tutor and practising doctor. Each topic is presented and illustrated with novel insights from a historical and often fascinating background extending up to medical controversies of the present day. A final section takes a personal look at the factors which contribute to Oxford's extraordinary ability to nurture medical science.
