Excerpt from A Greek and English Lexicon, on a Plan Entirely New: In Four Parts; Greek-English, Difficult Inflexions, English-Greek, and Proper Names; Containing the Interpretation of All the Words Which Occur in Greek Classic Authors, the Septuagint, and New Testament Verbs are frequently found in the present with a redupllcation or repetition of the word, which was originally intended to render the term more empha tic. The more ancient any language is, the more merci appear the traces of such repetition. And next to the Hebrew. They form a remarkable feature in the Greek tongue. Thus 'o. I walk, sooth. Blended into one word, becomia I stride. In the course of time this emphatic mean ing was last. And very few ol these verbs at present have any other meaning than the ample form.
