Book Description
We live in a world that is increasingly difficult to understand. It is not just changing: it is metamorphosing. Change implies that some things change but other things remain the same capitalism changes, but some aspects of capitalism remain as they always were. Metamorphosis implies a much more radical transformation in which the old certainties of modern society are falling away and something quite new is emerging. To grasp this metamorphosis of the world it is necessary to explore the new beginnings, to focus on what is emerging from the old and seek to grasp future structures and norms in the turmoil of the present. Take climate change: much of the debate about climate change has focused on whether or not it is really happening, and if it is, what we can do to stop or contain it. But this emphasis on solutions blinds us to the fact that climate change is an agent of metamorphosis. It has already altered our way of being in the world the way we live in the world, think about the world and seek to act upon the world through our actions and politics. Rising sea levels are creating new landscapes of inequality drawing new world maps whose key lines are not traditional boundaries between nation-states but elevations above sea level. It is creating an entirely different way of conceptualizing the world and our chances of survival within it. The theory of metamorphosis goes beyond theory of world risk society: it is not about the negative side effects of goods but the positive side effects of bads. They produce normative horizons of common goods and propel us beyond the national frame towards a cosmopolitan outlook.

Book Description
Apart from eleven years in England for school, university and National Service, and a three-year 'overseas posting' as Hong Kong Commissioner in London, Denis Bray has lived all his life in Hong Kong and China. The metamorphosis is of the man himself as he grew up from childhood, through adolescence to become an administrator in Hong Kong for thirty-five years. It is also the story of Hong Kong's emergence from near death after the Second World War to become one of the major cities in Asia. The story is told as an autobiography, from growing up in China to the occasional brief occupation of the Governor's seat. In the early days, 'administration' was rather a grand word to describe the daily grappling with novel problems never before encountered. In fact, it is difficult to detect any onset of routine. In this life, as in the life of Hong Kong itself, change and challenge were the only constants.

Book Description
Love is... is not your typical one-Scripture and a short-story-type of devotional. Love is... is an in-depth study of the Word of God to analyze the true meaning of love and all of its attributes. By using the Bible as a lens, the author navigates us through an investigation into the biblical qualities of love from the Old Testament, the teachings of Jesus, and Paul’s famous love verses in Corinthians. Each daily devotion is saturated with Scripture and strongly aims toward helping others live a victorious life. Providing many wise discernments, biblical references, and relatable application for the reader, Love is... helps solidify each concept in their mind and, ultimately, their spirit. Each devotion is completely designed to draw the reader closer in their relationship with the Lord, while addressing love from every angle, including faith and hope. With daily prayers and Scripture studies and questions for reflections at the end of each devotion, the reader can connect to the study as they dive deeper into the depths of a biblically based love. Love is... is the first devotional book by J. R. Gattis, and a portion of all proceeds will be donated through abidesinlove.com to show love in action, to aid the addicted, homeless, and incarcerated to help them draw closer to Jesus in their time of need.

Book Description
Content As Brazil 2014 will yet again show, the FIFA World Cup is a mega-event followed by billions of spectators around the globe. This volume is the first scholarly attempt to capture the history of the FIFA World Cup in its entirety. From the first World Cup in 1930 to the one in 2010 the tournament has exerted strong influences and acted as an important indicator of political, economic, social and cultural developments. In bringing together contributions by international experts from history, cultural studies, sociology and politics this volume explores some crucial issues linked to the World Cup: from the political exploitation of the tournament for domestic purposes to its economic ramifications for the host nation and beyond; from its role for national identity and national self-representation to its potential to realize transnational modes of identity and interdependence; from its role as a global media event to its impact on the commercialization of football on the national and transnational stage.
