Book Description
Excerpt from A Dictionary English and Marathi Compiled for the Government of Bombay Twenty six years have elapsed since the first edition of this Dictionary was published. The compiler acknowledges with feelings of great gratification the favor with which it was received by Marathi scholars, and by the Public at large. The gentlemen whom the Government of Bombay requested to report on the work, made a very favorable report and the learned Boden Professor of Sanskrit at the University of Oxford, in his preface to his English and Sanskrit Dictionary, mentioned it in terms of great commendation. The com piler trusts that this revised and enlarged edition will be received with the same favor. As the Preface to the first edition, which explains the plan of the work, and the Essay on the English and Marathi languages written by the late Dr. Stevenson, are both reprinted in this edition, very few words are here required.
