Does this indicate, I ask you, that all that have done this "in the name of Christ," that have said "Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord," shall enjoy final holiness and happiness? Surely, It is not much that we have to do, to become holy and happy, if all the men who spurned Christ and clamored for his blood can be at last brought to holiness and happiness by simply uttering that exclamation. Then, indeed, we who have had nothing to do with those transactions at the betrayal and crucifixion, we can very easily slip into heaven, if that is all there is in the matter of salvation. Returning, now, to the proposition in reference to Adam dying: The Doctor tells us, "That they die in sin." He tells us the apostle affirms this. So in Christ shall all be made alive. What is the signification of the expression? Man died in same sense in Adam, in which he should be "made alive" in Christ. It does not say, however, that he shall be made finally holy and happy in heaven, though it may be said that he is made alive. It is true that in Adam a sort of spiritual paralysis came upon the race. Without Christ there is no evidence that Adam's race could have lived and could have enjoyed even the probation that we enjoy. All orthodox believe that Christ gave himself for the redemption of the world, and extended the benefits of his atonement to the world. He spread the wing of atonement over that infant, that you left at home to-night, and if that child dies before it commits any overt act of sin, it is saved eternally in heaven, by virtue of Christ's death.
