On 29 September 1982, an intensive cultural resources survey was conducted by the Environmental Branch of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District over approximately one acre. The project is located near Dudley, Stoddard County, Missouri, Township 25N, Range 9E, Section 3 NE1/4, NE1/4 of the Puxico Quadrangle. The proposed project includes repairing eroded areas upstream and downstream, and beneath the existing bridge. A literature search and a pedestrian survey failed to locate any prehistoric, historic, or architectural sites within the project right-of-way.

Under an indefinite quantity contract, Prentice Thomas and Associated, Inc. was issued a delivery order for a cultural resources survey along a portion of dudley ditch/ lick Creek, Stoddard County Missouri. the study area extended for a total of 13.7 miles and encompassed a total of approximately 328 acres. Along the corridor, the right of way surveyed was either 40 or 100 feet. The survey resulted in the identification of one site (23SO574), four isolated finds and five standing structures. The site appears to date to the Late Archaic and Woodland, with the possibility of a pre-Late Archaic component. no dates can be offered for the isolate finds. Three previously known sites, 23DO527, 23So530, and 23SO411, were not relocated and their previous evaluation as ineligible is retained. Four of the structures are associated with the Dodds/Evans family and wee constructed between 1932 and 1948. Structure 1 from this complex is evaluate as potentially eligible; the other three are ineligible. The fifth structure appears to be recent -00 post - 1960s; it is ineligible.

This investigation described in this report include a cultural resources survey along, 1.6 miles of the Castor River in Stoddard County, Missouri; phase II testing of one Castor River site; phase II testing of three sites along Ditch 19 in Dunklin County, Missouri; and a cultural resources survey along Lower Ditch 1, Ditch 290, Ditch 281-9 and Ditch 293 in Pemiscot and New Madrid Counties, Missouri. No cultural resources were discovered within either the Castor River or five other.

From Jan. 12-19,1987, MCRA conducted a cultural resources survey along Ditch 19 and Lateral No. 1 in Dunklin Co., MO. The survey resulted in the identification of the potential prehistoric archaeological sites and one prehistoric isolated find. Initial site testing was done by MCRA from Feb. 4-10, 1987. Several of the potential sites were found to be part of the same site, resulting in a total of seven prehistoric archaeological sites. Intensive testing consisted of the collection of controlled surface collection the excavation of 1m x 1m test units, and mapping the sites. These investigations determined three sites to be eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
