Book Description
331 INNINGS is a powerful tale narrated by elderly Nebraska native Jack Schram, a lifelong witness to the folly of war and hypocrisy. Jack tells of the bullying encountered by his nephew's son John, born with physical limitations and learning disabilities. It hasn't been easy either for John's close friend Sarah Jenkinson, harassed constantly since moving to the area a few years ago. While John relates that he wants to bring change to the world, all Jack can see is change of the unfortunate kind. Will John continue to cast his lot with two older ne'er-do-wells and follow through on the random acts of violence they fantasize about? Or find a better path? In a time when people ask what is going wrong with our children and ourselves and tragedies abound all over the globe, this is truly an inspirational story.

Book Description
Since 1901, over 5,600 pitchers have toed the rubber in baseball's major leagues. Of them only 369 have won 20 or more games in a single season. (Only 168 of those to win 20 games have been able to repeat the feat, further illustrating how difficult it is to reach that plateau.) Season by season, this reference work documents major league 20-game winners from 1901 through the 1996 season (including the Federal League 1914-1915). A brief synopsis of each pitcher's season is provided, along with his complete pitching statistics. Some of the pitchers who won 20 games were all-time greats, but, interestingly, many were journeymen who had one great season. The work also shows the changes in the game, from the deadball era when pitching dominated to the present when the lively ball has made the 20-game winner even rarer than before.

Book Description
In this third edition of Baseball Ratings, author Charles Faber combines the second edition ("great fodder for arguments"--Booklist) with his book on 19th-century greats, Baseball Pioneers ("very impressive"--Reference and User Services Quarterly; "a notable and ... worthwhile addition"--ARBA), updating the ratings and expanding the commentary in each. The result, Baseball Ratings: The All-Time Best Players at Each Position, 1876 to the Present, is that rarest of rankings books--a time-tested, comprehensive reference work that invites reading. Batters, fielders and pitchers from all major leagues since 1876 are ranked by position and, for pitchers, according to role (e.g., starter, middle reliever, closer) according to career, peak, and per-season achievement. All big league players with at least five years of eligibility are rated, and appendices identify underrated and overrated players, rate multiposition players, and sort the great by handedness.
