Book Description
In 2008, 26–year–old Tik Maynard faced a crossroads not unlike that of other young adults. A university graduate and modern pentathlete, he suffered both a career–ending injury and a painful breakup, leaving him suddenly adrift. The son of prominent Canadian equestrians, Maynard decided to spend the next year as a “working student.” In the horse industry, working students aspire to become professional riders or trainers, and willingly trade labor for hands–on education. Here Maynard chronicles his experiences–good and bad–and we follow along as one year becomes three, what began as a casual adventure gradually transforms, and a life's purpose comes sharply into focus. Over time, Maynard evolved under the critical eyes of Olympians, medal winners, and world–renowned figures in the horse world, including Anne Kursinski, Johann Hinnemann, Ingrid Klimke, David and Karen O'Connor, Bruce Logan, and Ian Millar. He was ignored, degraded, encouraged, and praised. He was hired and fired, told he had the “wrong body type to ride” and that he had found his “destiny.” He got married and lost loved ones. Through it all he studied the horse, and human nature, and how the two can find balance. And in that journey, he may have found himself.

Book Description
The year 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of Mabada Plains Project archaeological research in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Madaba Plains Project is one of the longest-lived, continuously running archaeological excavation projects in the Middle East. Spanning four decades, the project, with its beginnings at Tall Hisban in the late sixties, has engaged 1,500 participants, produced scores of publications and spawned a dozen other projects. Its legacy includes being one of the first major Near Eastern archaeology projects to adopt a multi-millennial, regional approach; to incorporate ethnoarchaeology and environmental studies; to construct data around a food-systems' approach; and to computerize procedures for archaeological data acquisition and analysis, thus helping advance both the theoretical underpinnings and the field methods of archaeology in the southern Levant and beyond. Madaba Plains Project directors, wishing to celebrate this major scientific and historical milestone, have produced this anniversary volume which: highlights the value of ongoing collaborative research across the region of central Jordan, attempting to explain life and survival from the Bronze ages through the Islamic and early modern periods and features the latest results from ongoing research; enlivens the discussion by hearing from major scholars in the field who, in the process of assessing the contributions of the project to the archaeology of the southern Levant, broaden the discussion in the context of ancient Near Eastern archaeological research; and, expands the horizons of the project's research by presenting the ever enlarging number and extent of projects conducted by dig directors once on staff with the Madaba Plains Project, thereby taking readers all over Jordan and beyond.

Book Description
The tale of the Bechtel family dynasty is a classic American business story. It begins with Warren A. 'Dad' Bechtel, who led a consortium that constructed the Hoover Dam. From that auspicious start, the family and its eponymous company would go on to 'build the world,' from the construction of airports in Hong Kong and Doha, to pipelines and tunnels in Alaska and Europe, to mining and energy operations around the globe. Today Bechtel is one of the largest privately held corporations in the world, enriched and empowered by a long history of government contracts and the privatization of public works, made possible by an unprecedented revolving door between its San Francisco headquarters and Washingto

Book Description
The Journal of the Four Horsemen summarizes the adventures of four young businessmen and their efforts to help save their community from financial disaster. From the closing of the town’s major employer and the loss of over two thousand jobs, it traces the endeavors of a group of citizens in Cambridge, Maryland to bring an unemployment rate of almost 25% down to less than 5 %. Written from first-hand experience, it portrays the planning, the plodding, and the politics involved in industrial development. It describes the inspiring sense of achievement, the frustration of defeat, and laughs at the frailties of man ... especially their own. Without intending it to be, it is a road map for a "do-it-yourself" community economic program. Ride and fly with these men as they negotiate with such notables as the legendary James Rouse, The Chinese Food King Jeno Paulucci, and "Izzy" Meyers the founder of London Fog, as they entertain foreign dignitaries for The Department of State and match political wit with foes of the White House. The quaint town of Cambridge, Maryland is located on the south bank of the great Choptank River, a major tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. Before it became a town, the area had been inhabited by the Algonquian-speaking Choptank Indians. In the year 1669, The Maryland Assembly set aside that land as a Choptank Tribe Reservation. Fifteen years later, in 1684, The Maryland Assembly designated that same sector as a “port of entry" ... and the town of Cambridge was born. Cambridge was incorporated officially in 1793 and is one the oldest colonial cities in Maryland to have survived from that early date. Because the Eastern Shore was settled by English colonists, most community names were derived from familiar British cities and families. Our county, Dorchester, was named for the Earl of Dorset, a friend of the Calvert family. Although tucked away in a comer of the Delmarva Peninsula, Cambridge is steeped in history with quaint and attractive waterfronts and interesting architecture. It is the home of four former Governors of Maryland, as well as Stephen Allen Benson, the second President of Liberia. Anna Emma Carroll the "silent member" of Abraham Lincoln's cabinet resided here along with other notables such as Annie Oakley, Harriet Tubman, John Barth and Bea Arthur.
