Book Description
21 Promises combines the clarity of the gospel and the authenticity of life stories to accurately reveal the abiding promises of God displayed in our lives. In some cases, we fail to recognize Gods presence as we endure present times. However, the beauty of the gospel comes to a brief fruition when we step away from the window and observe Gods sustaining work arising in each of our days. The purpose of focusing on the promises of God found in Scripture originates from a lack of Biblical understanding in our generation. As young adults in a liberal society, the value of gathering an accurate understanding of Gods promises remains crucially important. Friends, family, and professors might teach or share false ideas about God, prompting young adults to doubt his existence, his goodness, and his authority. With the help of Scripture, 21 Promises teaches adults, young and old, to understand with their minds and believe with their hearts in the unfailing promises of God. Likewise, the creative narrative of this book allows the reader to witness stories from a first-person perspective before reflecting on Gods promises as a third-person party. In essence, the hope of this book focuses on the readers observation of the promises of God displayed in Scripture and real life events, regardless of their history and knowledge of God. Without Gods promises, we live confused lives; yet, he makes himself present and available through these divine revelations.

Book Description
Imagine a set of simple principles that could help you to understand how parts combine to become a whole, and how each part sees the whole from its own perspective. If such principles were any good, it shouldn’t matter whether we’re talking about humans on a team, birds in a flock, computers in a datacenter, or cogs in a Swiss watch. A theory of cooperation ought to be pretty universal, so we should be able to apply it both to technology and to the workplace. Such principles are the subject of Promise Theory, and the focus of this insightful book. The goal of Promise Theory is to reveal the behavior of a whole from the sum of its parts, taking the viewpoint of the parts rather than the whole. In other words, it is a bottom-up, constructionist view of the world. Start Thinking in Promises and find out why this discipline works for documenting system behaviors from the bottom-up.

Book Description
Conventional wisdom dictates that the conditions of international politics require states to pursue "tough" strategies based on threats, ruling out "soft" strategies such as reassurances or appeasement. In Threats and Promises, James W. Davis, Jr., works toward a theory of influence in international politics that recognizes the power of promises and assurances as tools of statecraft. Davis offers an analytic treatment of promises and assurances, drawing on relevant strands of international relations theory and deterrence theory, as well as cognitive and social psychology. Building on prospect theory (from cognitive psychology), he develops a testable theory of influence that suggests promises are most effective when potential aggressors are motivated by a desire to avoid loss. Davis then considers a series of case studies drawn principally from German diplomatic relations in the later nineteenth and early twentieth century. From the case studies—which focus on such issues as European stability, colonial competition, and the outbreak of the First World War—Davis shows how a blending of threats and promises according to reasoned principles can lead to a new system of more creative statecraft. While many critical analyses exist on the use of threats, there are relatively few on the use of promises. Davis argues that promises have been central to outcomes that were previously attributed to the successful use of deterrent threats, as well as the resolution of many crises where threats failed to deter aggression. Threats and Promises challenges the conventional wisdom and is an original contribution to the field of international politics.
